Balloon Sinuplasty: Less invasive endoscopic sinus surgery

Balloon Sinuplasty: Less invasive endoscopic sinus surgeryAs a relatively new and minimally invasive procedure, Balloon Sinuplasty may be something that many doctors would not have known about or recommended to their patients. For patients that have been experiencing uncomfortable sinus difficulties for a prolonged period of time, i.e. six months or longer, and have not responded to drug therapy, this procedure could be a solution to living a pain-free life!

What is Balloon Sinuplasty?

Balloon Sinuplasty (BSP) is a minimally invasive procedure to treat chronic sinusitis, which is the inflammation of swelling of the tissue lining sinuses. Sinusitis can cause a variety of symptoms including facial pain and/or pressure, congestion, fever, loss of smell, and even dental pain, among other things. While these symptoms can be acute or chronic, BSP is surgery and is most often considered in managing chronic symptoms.

Balloon Sinuplasty is an alternative to the traditional endoscopic sinus surgery. Balloon Sinuplasty is as effective as traditional surgery but is minimally invasive which means the soft tissue is preserved by using a balloon catheter versus the cutting and reaming of bone and soft tissue associated with traditional surgery.

How can it help treat chronic sinusitis?

Balloon Sinuplasty has been proven to be very effective in providing lasting relief from chronic sinusitis symptoms. Over 95% say they would choose to have it again if given the choice.

How is Balloon Sinuplasty performed?

Balloon Sinuplasty is completed under general anaesthetic.

During the procedure, the surgeon opens blocked sinus passageways using a small, flexible balloon catheter. This allows the mucus build up to drain and as a result of this drainage, the patient will likely notice a relief in their chronic sinusitis symptoms immediately. The opening of these inflamed sinuses is done in the same way that Cardiologists open up blocked arteries during a procedure known as a balloon angioplasty.

There is no cutting or removal of bone and tissue required during this procedure. And, because the Balloon Sinuplasty is a less invasive treatment it results in almost no downtime, in comparison to traditional sinus surgery which typically requires a few weeks of recovery time.

Is Balloon Sinuplasty right for me?

More than 150,000 patients have been safely treated with Balloon Sinuplasty. Patients suffering from chronic sinusitis that have not been responding well to other medical treatment options, such as antibiotics, may be candidates for a Balloon Sinuplasty.

We offer a short questionnaire online that can help determine if this procedure is right for you. A Consultation is the best place to begin to discuss options and determine what would be the best strategy based on your symptoms, medical history, and other determining factors.

Next Steps: Get a Balloon Sinuplasty Consultation

What to know about MICA bunion surgery procedure

Bunion SurgeryA Hallux Valgus, more commonly known as a bunion, is a large, protruding bump on the side of the big toe. Bunions can cause swelling, soreness and inflammation – although not all bunions are painful.

Bunions occur when the metatarsal joint at the base of the big toe becomes misaligned. The big toe may angle toward the smaller toes, creating a crooked bump that usually gets larger over time. A bulging metatarsal bone can put pressure on the joint and wear down the cartilage, making it increasingly difficult to walk or run without bunion or foot pain.

Although there are some people who may be congenitally predisposed to acquiring bunions, the main cause of bunions is ill-fitting or overly tight shoes, high heels or improper footwear.

Am I a bunion surgery candidate?

The MICA procedure is most effective in those who have not yet developed extensive arthritis in the metatarsal joint. This procedure is not appropriate for people who have active infections, circulation issues, or uncontrolled diabetes.

An Orthopaedic Surgeon is the best person to accurately assess your condition and determine whether you would benefit from the MICA procedure. You will be required to have a recent (i.e. within the past 3 months) standing x-ray of both feet.

What is the MICA procedure?

Two of the most typical traditional bunion procedures are the Chevron procedure and the Akin procedure. MICA Minimally Invasive Chevron and Akin is a next generation orthopaedic cosmetic procedure that combines the best of both strategies and is ideal for the treatment of bunions, and correction of mild to moderate big toe deformity. MICA is an innovative, technologically advanced procedure and offers patients a choice from traditional bunion surgery.

MICA is the first surgical technique performed through the skin for correction of bunions to combine the cutting of the toe bones through small minimally invasive incisions on the skin with the benefits of the modern procedure to internally stabilize the bones.

It can help provide relief from pain and make it possible for patients to be active and enjoy life again. Because it is a minimally invasive surgery and the bones are stabilized as part of the procedure, patients are usually able to walk out of the facility and return to normal activity within a few days after the procedure with no casts or crutches. Furthermore, MICA patients report much less pain and swelling and the resulting scar looks better cosmetically.

Where to go for MICA surgery?

Centric Health Surgical Centre Toronto now offers the MICA surgery.

An initial consultation with the surgeon will identify if you are a candidate for MICA and provide information on the most effective bunion treatment options for resolution of bunion symptoms.

As this procedure is a private orthopaedic cosmetic procedure, there is no need for a referral from a family doctor. All Consultation, Surgical and Follow Up Fees are covered in the total cost of the procedure.

Imagine getting back to favourite activities a few days after surgery.

When is the Right Time to Get Botox and Fillers?

botox fillers anti aging

Many women consider Botox and Fillers when they begin to see signs of aging. While both Botox and fillers are used for the face, they each have a different purpose, discover which treatments are suitable for patients in their 20’s 30’s 40’s & 50’s.

Botox is a specific brand name product whose purpose is to weaken the neuromodulators (facial muscles) that are used to create certain facial expressions. Botox helps to reduce the development of crow’s feet, soften the chin pad, help turn up the lips, and help elevate the eyebrows.

Fillers, on the other hand, is the name of an entire category of brand name products that are used primarily to fill or plump areas of the face that have lost volume over time.

Botox and Fillers in your 20’s

Botox and fillers are something that many women consider when they begin to truly see significant signs of aging in their thirties and forties. But many women in their 20s are now considering these treatments.

Social Media Selfies undeniably rule the world of the millennials, with Samsung estimating that the average millennial may take over 25,000 in their lifetime. As millennials constantly view their image in detail, they quickly identify areas they would like to improve or change and notice subtle signs of aging as they first appear.

While Botox can help slow and prevent signs of aging by relaxing the muscles eventually create expression lines, it is also a procedure that has to be maintained, meaning that Botox treatments would need to be regularly applied to keep the muscles relaxed.

On the other hand, Fillers are a semi-permanent solution that helps keep the lips and cheeks youthful, delaying or minimizing the first signs of aging.  While you are still young, focus on keeping your skin as healthy as possible. Get the right skin care products and stick to a good, consistent skincare routine.

Botox and Fillers in your 30’s

As the skin ages, its elasticity begins to fade – this is what ultimately causes wrinkles to form. Botox is a great way to help prevent the signs of aging, but another option to consider in your 30s is fillers to help fill the face back out. This will reduce and prevent wrinkles and keep the skin feeling tight and young. So, before the true signs of aging appear, consider getting fillers occasionally while still managing a healthy skin care routine.

Also, consider using Botox in your 30s to prevent or relax and smooth crow’s feet, forehead lines and frown lines. Fillers can also be used to enhance lips and cheeks and reduce the appearance of tear troughs and smile lines.

Botox & Fillers in your 40’s and 50’s

Once you reach your 40s, showing some signs of aging is inevitable, so managing aging becomes the goal. The use of both Botox and fillers can be an option. While Botox does have to be maintained, meaning it will need to be treated about twice a year, it is likely the most effective option. Botox and fillers are a safe, simple and minimally invasive way to improve confidence by helping to get rid of some signs of aging and managing others.

Botox should be considered to relax and smooth crow’s feet, chin dimpling, frown lines on the forehead, etc. Fillers help restore lost fullness, smooth out lines and subtly enhance the lips and cheeks to help patients look as young as they feel. Fillers can also be used to revive a contoured chin and jawline.

How to get Botox & Fillers

One of the most important aspects of any cosmetic procedure, even something considered as minor like Botox or fillers is who is doing it and where it is getting done. At Centric Health, rest assured in the safety and ease of the process by knowing that it will be supervised by a plastic surgeon and administered by a registered nurse that has a special focus on facial anatomy.

If Botox or fillers are something you have been considering, contact us today at 416-441-2111 to discuss your options and next steps. Our specialists can help you decide which option best fits your lifestyle and will work to achieve your vision.

Unsightly Bunions? Learn about the MICA Cosmetic Orthopaedic Procedure!

MICA Bunion Surgery Hallux Valgus

What is a Hallux Valgus? What is a Bunion?

A Hallux Valgus and a Bunion are actually the same thing! Hallux Valgus is just the scientific medical terminology used by doctors, while the word bunion is the word commonly used by most patients. A bunion is typically a large, protruding bump on the outer side of the big toe. Bunions can cause swelling, soreness and inflammation – although not all bunions are painful, they are often unsightly and can make it difficult to wear the shoes we love.

Bunions occur when the big toe angles in towards the smaller toes, resulting in overlapping or bumping into the adjacent toe or toes. A bony prominence called a bunion, develops on the outer side of the big toe when the joint at the base of the big toe becomes misaligned. Often this angling of the big toe occurs as a result of footwear but it can also be the result of a congenital condition.

Over time, a bulging bunion can put pressure on the joint and wear down cartilage, making it increasingly difficult to walk or run without bunion or foot pain.

Minimally Invasive Chevron and Akin Surgery (MICA)

An orthopaedic cosmetic procedure that can treat bunions now offered at Centric Health Surgical Centre. Minimally Invasive Chevron and Akin (MICA) is another option available for correction of mild to moderate big toe deformity and is ideal for bunions.

MICA can help to relieve bunion pain and make it possible for most patients to be active and enjoy life again including the comfort of being able to wear their favourite shoes again. Typically after treatment, the foot looks better, and cosmetically the scarring is minimal. When compared to traditional bunion surgery, MICA offers quicker recovery with minimal scarring.

Patients who have undergone this minimally invasive surgery are usually able to walk within two days after the procedure. In contrast, those who have had traditional bunion surgery must wait for the fusion to occur and are required to be non-weight bearing on the affected foot for 4-6 weeks. MICA patients typically report less pain and swelling, and many have been able to get back on track with their lives much sooner than expected. In one study, 87% of patients were satisfied with the results of the procedure. The key is to follow the post-operative instructions provided by the surgeon.

Are You Ready for MICA Surgery?

If you struggle from:

  • Foot pain that significantly limits activities of daily life and experience difficulty walking more than a few blocks without significant pain
  • Chronic inflammation and swelling that does not improve with rest and medications
  • Toe deformity or drifting of the big toe toward the smaller ones, creating the potential for toes to cross over each other (“the crossover toe”)
  • Stiffness with inability to bend and straighten the big toe
  • Failure to obtain pain relief with changes in footwear

During your consultation, our surgeon will review your bilateral standing x-rays with you and advise on the best treatment option for your type of bunion deformity. We will answer your questions and address any concerns during your consultation. There is no need for a referral from a family doctor as this is a private cosmetic orthopaedic procedure.

MICA is an innovative, technologically advanced cosmetic orthopaedic procedure and a offers patients a choice from traditional bunion surgery.

Imagine getting back to the favourite activities in as short as two days after surgery. Contact us to book your consultation today!

Is Stem Cell Therapy suitable to Treat Joint Pain?

Runner hurt leg candidate for stem cell therapyIn recent years, the science of Regenerative Medicine has grown as a popular non-surgical, safe and effective approach to the treatment and resolution of various joint injuries and diseases. Stem Cell Therapy is a relatively quick and simple non-surgical procedure that is equally effective and less invasive than many forms of treatment for joint pain and immobility.

What conditions is Stem Cell Therapy able to treat?

Stem Cell Therapy has shown promise in the symptom management of various diseases and activity-related injuries. People with traumatic injuries, such as fractures, sprains, strains, and cartilage tears are potential candidates for this type of treatment. Injuries to the rotator cuff in the shoulder, the Achilles tendon at the back of the foot, or the anterior cruciate ligament or medial collateral ligament in the knee are examples of treatment areas for this procedure. Overuse injuries, such as tendonitis in the knee, elbow, wrist, or shoulder can also be treated with regenerative medicine. If you find yourself suffering from immobilizing joint pain from arthritis or chronic injury, stem cell therapy might be a reasonable treatment option for you.

What is Stem Cell Therapy?

Stem cells have unique capabilities. Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs – also known as Progenitor Cells) comprise about 1 percent of bone marrow and do not possess tissue-specific structures that give them a specific job in the body. They are able to produce copies of themselves, and can change to form bone, cartilage, tendon, muscle, and adipose cells.

In response to injury, MSCs produce proteins that alter the surrounding environment and promote healing and tissue regeneration. They work to regenerate tissue in joints through angiogenic factors, and promote the growth of new blood vessels as well as have other properties that stimulate local, tissue-specific stem cells. Stem cells also release regenerative factors that help healing to occur, called trophic effects. Stem cells also have anti-inflammatory properties that are very effective at alleviating the inflammatory responses seen in chronic injuries. By blocking and altering the mechanisms through which inflammation occurs, some chronic injuries may heal. Lastly, the stem cells may allow regeneration of injured tissue.

All these mechanisms cannot be achieved by cortisone injections or commonly prescribed anti-inflammatory medications.

How is Stem Cell Therapy performed?

Centric Health Surgical Centre Toronto uses the proven Harvest Bone Marrow System. Your surgeon will extract (aspirate) stem cells along with other material from the marrow in your pelvic (hip) bone. The extracted material will then be refined by separating the Progenitor Cells/MSCs from waste material, blood, and other tissue, with the refined stem cells then being re-injected into the targeted injured or diseased area.

What are the typical results of Stem Cell Therapy?

As a typical result of stem cell therapy, patients usually have a newfound joy at being able to re-engage in their beloved activities and hobbies. Patients find themselves happily surprised by the simplicity of the treatment, compared to the more complicated and permanent surgical solution of fusion.

Immobility caused by joint pain can put a damper on even the simplest of your daily activities – from cleaning your house to playing with your grandchildren. But, thanks to treatment options like stem cell therapy, you can be back on your feet in no time, with little to no pain. Most patients report a very minimal recovery time, with several walking and already feeling improvements in as little as a few weeks. When examined after treatment, the tendons are often stronger with better alignment of collagen fibres. Using a patient’s own stem cells also eliminates the risk of an allergic response or complications from surgery.

Are you a candidate for Stem Cell Therapy?

As with any form of medical procedure or treatment, your first question is likely: “Is this right for me?”

The ideal candidate for Stem Cell Therapy is someone who experiences chronic joint pain and/or joint injuries or disease, arthritis, osteoarthritis, etc. If you are looking for a minimally invasive treatment option with a quick recovery time, stem cell therapy is a good option to consider.

The surgeons at Centric Health Surgical Centre Toronto will meet to review your diagnostics, examine your area of concern and discuss your treatment options. Feel free to bring any questions you wish to have answered and we will provide you with information to address each of your concerns. No referral is required to meet with our surgeons for a consultation.

Are We Our Own Worst Critic?

Plastic Surgery

Sometimes we can be our own worst critics. Most people engage in occasionally comparing their looks and features to that of others – be they friends, family members, people on television, or even magazine models.

While some of this is just motivation for self-improvement, we can also be too hard on ourselves if we try to be perfectionists. The important message is to try and avoid becoming our own worst critic.

To keep from being overly self-critical the first step is to start to see things differently. By worrying less about the opinions of others, we can slowly empower ourselves to define our own realistic standards.

Once we have a realistic starting point, focused on our own desires we can then make our own achievable goals. Fortunately, with the development of new technologies and surgical expertise, we have increased control of what and how we can change. Depending on our starting point and end goal we can change to be better versions of ourselves through our lifestyle, exercise, and surgical or non-surgical interventions, or a combination thereof.

Common Surgical Procedures

Centric Health Surgical Centre offers many cosmetic surgical procedures that are commonly desired by patients to enhance their look and improve their confidence. A few of these common procedures include rhinoplasty, tummy tuck, and breast implants.

These surgeries address some of the most common areas that patients desire to improve: nose shape and size, stomach fat, and breasts that have lost their shape over time or following childbirth.

However, these relatively simple procedures completed at Centric Health Surgical Center in Toronto can assist you in shaping your body to better fit your desired image.

Mommy Makeover

Becoming a mom is one of the greatest joys in life, but some women find themselves struggling with their post-pregnancy body.

Having children can cause many bodily changes, particularly impacted are the stomach and breasts.

However, alongside diet and exercise, a surgical or non-surgical procedure can help patients get on their way to a full mommy makeover, addressing those impacted areas and helping them get closer to their pre-pregnancy body.

When considering if a mommy makeover is right for you, start by digging deep within and understanding just what it is you are looking to change. Why is it that you are looking to have surgery and what aspect of yourself do you want to change?

Does it affect your confidence?

There are events in life that can affect the way we look and in turn, the way we look at ourselves. It might be a personal or medical issue or an accident that occurred which altered our appearance. Ultimately, we find ourselves feeling like we need to improve to meet our goals and achieve our personal vision of our ideal self.

An ideal candidate for a cosmetic surgical procedure falls into two categories:

  1. Patients with a strong, confident self-image, but who are looking to refine a specific characteristic to achieve an ideal vision.
  2. Patients with low confidence who feel held back from being more confident by being self-conscious about some aspect of their appearance.

Options such as cosmetic surgery can produce changes in physical appearance and confidence. Finding productive solutions to improve confidence is a great move in the right direction. Choosing to make a change for the better helps you restore the confidence you had in yourself which can shed a positive light on all aspects of life from personal to professional.

Unfortunately, for many people, it is hard to ask for help and make the decision to pursue cosmetic surgery. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness, in fact, it is a sign of strength in pursuing what we want and making a choice to achieve it.

Something as simple as calling to book a free consultation with a cosmetic surgeon to discuss your options might be the first step in getting the answers you have been looking for.

Find out your options, contact us today to book your consultation with our surgeon at 1-888-857-6069.

When do you know it’s time for cosmetic surgery or a non-surgical treatment option?

Have you always hated that hump in your nose? Are your wrinkles just a little too obvious? Or, maybe it is that extra skin you still have lingering after losing weight. Well, that is where options like cosmetic surgery and non-surgical treatment come in.

Plastic surgery plastic surgeon

Whether it is a tummy tuck, a face lift, a nose job, a breast augmentation, or a soft non-surgical face lift with fillers and botox or another innovative procedure, you probably know someone that has had at least one cosmetic or aesthetic procedure done at some point.

Since neither Health Canada nor Statistics Canada keeps track of the number of procedures on the cosmetic front, it can be hard to track just how many people are having procedures done, but the revenue those procedures generate does not lie. Based on dollar value, the most common procedures include: LiposuctionBreast augmentation, Injectables, including collagen and Botox and Non-surgical facelifts.

So, it is no mystery that as people continue to focus on improving their physical appearance, cosmetic surgery continues to grow in popularity. Both men and women have begun taking advantage of this advancement in modern medicine. However, while you might think of cosmetic surgery as only an improvement for self-esteem, it can also play a vital role in recovery from an accident or other life scenarios.

Can plastic surgery improve emotional well-being?

Regardless of who you are, there has probably always been one thing you wished you could change about your appearance. For many, cosmetic surgery and aesthetic procedures have provided a great opportunity to improve physical appearance or address an area of the body, which can improve self-esteem and confidence. This is seen among celebrities that continuously change or maintain their body image using cosmetic surgery and aesthetic procedures. A poor self-image can negatively affect self-esteem and emotional well-being, therefore, a natural and effective change in appearance may also positively change life outlook. When you feel more comfortable in your own skin, you may feel an improvement in your self-esteem, confidence and emotional well-being.

Reconstructive surgery after an accident

Unfortunately, sometimes life happens. You get a scar that does not seem to go away, a deformity from a weekend warrior activity, or, you are out working in the yard and a tool hits you, causing damage. While you feel lucky to survive the accident, you might not like the altered look it has left you with. Cosmetic reconstructive surgery may help you get back to looking more like yourself to help erase reminders of the accident and improve your confidence.

After weight loss surgery

Our Lap-Band, Gastric Sleeve, and Mini Gastric Bypass procedures are a great way for patients to achieve and maintain significant weight loss, however, your final image goal may require more assistance. While regular exercise and a healthier lifestyle have a great impact on the body’s response following weight loss surgery, the vision you had may not be what reality leaves you with. Our qualified Cosmetic Surgeons may be able to help you create a plan to safely and cost effectively achieve your image goal.

Financing your cosmetic procedure

Once you have decided that cosmetic surgery is for you, the next thing that probably comes to mind is the cost. Should you require assistance, there are several finance options available to fit your current financial situation. It goes without saying that healthcare is not an area where going with the cheapest option is advisable – sometimes too good to be true is exactly that! Media stories have documented unqualified, uncertified, unregulated businesses offering services, however, despite the possible hazards, some people continue to take health risks to save on costs. Always research physicians first and choose a trustworthy physician and facility, one with positive reviews and most importantly, certified doctors and nurses. Here at Centric Health, we are confident in our medical professionals, our outstanding customer service and we are happy to provide details on the financing options available.

Best times for plastic surgery

We are happy to help you decide what procedure is right for you and following the development of a plan, we will work to schedule your surgery or nonsurgical treatment at a time that works for you, taking into consideration the recovery required. Winter and fall are very popular for cosmetic procedures because people tend to cover up anyway. It is the perfect time of year to give yourself a “staycation” and relax and recover at home.

Regardless of which category you fall into, book your consultation today to ensure you are ready for next summer!

Eliminate Your Double Chin with Belkyra

belkyra double chin treatment

You can hide other areas of the body but you can’t hide a double chin. Typically when we gain weight it is reflected in the facial area, but the face and neck are also the hardest places to lose fat from as there is no way to tone or trim that area… until now. If this is a problem that plagues you, Belkyra may be the solution for you to say goodbye to your double chin!

The medical terminology for a double chin is submental fat. Developing a double chin is sometimes genetic, or can be part of the aging process, however, it can also appear because of fluctuations in body weight. Once a double chin has appeared there is a loss of skin elasticity, which makes it more difficult to get rid of fat.

How Do You Get A Double Chin?

  • The way your body metabolizes and deposits fat is genetically determined. If someone in your family has a double chin, you have a higher probability of getting one.
  • A double chin can also appear because of aging. When you age it is natural to lose muscle tone. When you lose muscle tone in the area of the neck and chin, the skin loosens giving a double chin appearance.
  • Another cause is being overweight. This can lead to accumulation of excess fat underneath the chin. Often a double chin and facial fat remain even after weight loss in other parts of your body. It is disheartening to lose weight through exercise and dieting only to continue to struggle with a double chin.

You Can Get Rid of Your Double Chin

There is now a permanent solution for losing double chin fat that exercise and diet have not been successful in eliminating. Belkyra is a fat dissolving substance which is injected into the submental fullness underneath your chin. Belkyra is a product approved by Health Canada that conveniently and effectively reduces double chin fat.

What is Belkyra?

Belkyra is deoxycholic acid, found naturally within the body, which when injected under the chin helps the body destroy and absorb fat cells that are deposited there. Belkyra is a non-surgical method approved by Health Canada to effectively lose a double chin.

After discussing your treatment goals, our doctor and injector nurse will customize your Belkyra treatment. Belkyra is administered as a series of injections in a specified area underneath the chin. It can only be administered by a medical professional. Most people experience the desired results with 1-3 sessions, but you can receive up to 6 treatment sessions. Each session lasts about 30 minutes and takes place six weeks apart to allow evaluation of the effectiveness and determine if further treatment is required.

Individual results of Belkyra may vary, and specific medical outcomes or permanent, long-term results for individuals cannot be guaranteed.

Is Belkyra Worth It?

Belkyra has many advantages over other methods such as surgery:

Quick: Belkyra is not time-consuming. It is an in-office procedure that takes about 30 minutes for a session. You can return to normal activities right after the procedure. You will experience some ‘numbing effect’ in the area for approximately 4-6 weeks, but nothing that will limit your activities as with other more invasive surgical options.

Cost Effective: Compared to expensive facial surgery the cost of Belkyra is very attractive, and unlike the other methods, you don’t have to spend anything on additional medications or accessories. Most people receive the desired effect in 1-3 sessions.

Health Canada Approved and Administered by Plastic Surgeon

Belkyra or deoxycholic acid was approved in 2015 by Health Canada for use in mesotherapy as a fat dissolving drug. It is distributed by Allergan, a well-known brand and reputable cosmetic procedure supplier. Belkyra has been rigorously tested and has produced many positive results for patients.

Don’t Let Arthritis Pain Weigh You Down

joint pain arthritis stem cell therapy

Are you suffering from chronic pain caused by arthritis in your hip, knee, ankle, or shoulder? You don’t have to live in pain. Stem Cell Therapy now offered at Centric Health Surgical Centre Toronto may help you to live your best life and free you of the pain that weighs you down.

What is Stem Cell Therapy?

Stem Cell Therapy is the use of stem cells to prevent or treat a condition. One of the most common stem cell therapies is bone marrow transplant or bone marrow therapy. At Centric Health Surgical Centre Toronto, our surgeons use Harvest Tech for all our bone marrow therapy procedures.

Bone marrow is the spongy substance found at the center of bones. It works to create the blood cells that your body needs in order to function properly. Bone marrow also contains a broad range of stem cells. These stem cells can be used to support the repair or growth of muscle, cartilage, bone, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissue. This type of therapy treatment has the potential to treat a number of conditions because stem cells can easily transform into a number of different kinds of cells.

Typically, bone marrow is removed using a procedure that is less invasive than a bone graft. Often, bone marrow is taken from the pelvis but can be taken from other areas as well. Using the Harvest system, the bone marrow is removed, then spun in a centrifuge, which isolates and concentrates the stem cells found in the bone marrow. These stem cells are then delivered to the affected sites in your body. Since the procedure uses a patient’s own bone marrow, there is no risk of rejection as there would be with a donor.

The benefit of Harvest Tech is that it consistently creates a purified, stem-cell-rich product. Harvest Tech offers a higher yield and concentration of stem cells as compared to other methods available, as shown by a number of studies.

While this therapy is innovative and cutting edge in many ways, it is also a proven procedure, used throughout Canada and the United States for many years on thousands of patients at well respected institutions such as the Mayo and Cleveland Clinics.

Why Should You Consider Stem Cell Therapy

If you are suffering from arthritis in your ankle, hip, knee, or shoulder, Stem Cell Therapy may help to alleviate the daily pain with which you currently live.

Patients who have arthritis and have exhausted other treatment options are generally good candidates for stem cell therapy. Stem cell therapy seems to work best on patients whose joints are only affected by osteoarthritis, not multiple conditions.

Benefits of getting a Stem Cell procedure at Centric Health

  1. Centric Health is a hospital, licensed with the Ministry of Health. This means your procedure will be done in a safe, sterile private hospital setting where you will receive comprehensive, compassionate care. This is in contrast to receiving a procedure in a clinic or a practitioner’s office.
  2. Our surgeons, including Dr. Khalid Syed is a respected orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in arthritis of the hip, knees and shoulder. He has done extensive research in his field and would be happy to share his knowledge with you during your consultation.
  3. Consider the benefits of living pain free for the cost of what you might spend on a family vacation or the down payment for a new car; instead get the joy of living without pain. There are no hidden costs or fees.

Stem Cell Therapy via Harvest Tech is another tool for physicians to use when considering treatment options for those dealing with arthritic pain and may not yet be a candidate for joint replacement.

A life free of pain may be a simple procedure away. Don’t wait! Call 1-888-857-6069 today to book your initial consultation with a surgeon.
